Rushcliffe Borough Council is warning that the illegal dumping of waste on our streets or in our countryside will not be tolerated – with heavy fines and court bills for anyone identified doing it.
It follows another fly-tipping incident in Ruddington yesterday (pictured above) when resident Adam Martyn contacted us to report that 2 big double fridges and 3 large fridges had been dumped just off the A60 on Asher Lane. Adam also called the Council – and has applauded the speed with which their contractors ‘Streetwise‘ came along to clear up the mess.
“Fantastic – under 30 minutes from reported call to removal” said Adam. “Apparently there were another 10 fridges dumped recently on Flawforth Lane.” A Streetwise spokesperson has confirmed to RUDDINGTON.info there have been reports of no less than 26 fly-tips in Ruddington since April this year alone. It’s thought the problem has been made worse by many metal recycling centres stopping accepting fridges and freezers – because of the need to deal with CFC gasses. It seems some unscrupulous scrap metal dealers are picking up these white goods, left by residents outside their homes for collectors to take, but just removing the compressors – which have a value in contrast to the fridge (which incurs a fee to treat) – before fly-tipping the carcass.
Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Executive Manager for Neighbourhoods Dave Banks told us: “We have a zero tolerance policy on fly-tippers and will always consider prosecution when evidence is found on those who commit these crimes. In the last few weeks we have prosecuted two individuals for fly-tipping in the Borough, both of whom were left with court bills of over £1,000.”
Mr Banks says clear-up costs can vary but RBC is always determined to try and recoup any of these in prosecutions where possible: “The message is clear. We will not hesitate to prosecute anyone who we find blights our communities in this fashion.”
Now villagers are asked to be vigilant spotting further fly-tipping incidents – and also to note down registration numbers of offending vehicles, if they can do so without putting themselves in danger. UPDATE 14th DECEMBER:
RBC has reported that individuals who allegedly fly-tipped fridges on an A52 lay-by close to Wheatcroft Island have had their vehicle seized.
It follows a spate of incidents in the area – including on Asher Lane and other sites around Ruddington. Covert CCTV caught the alleged perpetrators in the act – leading to the confiscation of the van pictured below last night. Police are now investigating whether these multiple fly-tipping offences are linked.
